Recent CCHS Graduate Shines

Calvin Christian High graduate Rachel Mulder (2010) is majoring in Elementary Education at DordtCollege, and hopes to one day teach in a classroom of her own.  And while her chances of reaching that goal are good, she might do well to keep a back-up plan in an area where she has excelled, and continues to receive recognition—journalism.

After writing many papers, taking the journalism elective, and writing for the Cougar’s Tale during her time at CCHS, Rachel earned a Student Publications Scholarship.  At Dordt, she has taken up writing for the Dordt Diamond and is taking journalism again.  Her professor, after observing Rachel gather information and ask thoughtful questions while developing a story, remarked about her courage and the quality of her work:  “Something tells me you’re going to be a mighty fine reporter.”  While Rachel may never aspire to become that fine reporter, we can be pretty certain that her elementary school students will get first-rate writing instruction from this teacher.
