Celebrating God's Blessings

One teacher, fifteen students, five grades, a single classroom--two if the room divider was drawn--that was Calvin Christian School on opening day, September 7, 1961.  A 50th anniversary celebration of that momentous day was held on Saturday, October 15.  More than 600 people enjoyed the day's festivities, including open houses at all three CCS campuses, a family dinner at the Edina campus and a culminating service of celebration at Calvary Church in Edina.

More than 400 current and former parents,
students, and other CCS supporters enjoyed
a meal together in the gym of the Inglewood
Avenue campus in Edina.

The CCHS Praise Band led a time of praise and
worship to begin the service of celebration.

Superintendent Steve Groen recognized
several founders who were in attendance.

Former principals Gene and Harriet Potoka
shared memories of the school's first 25 years.

Elementary students expressed the anniversary theme--
"Deeply rooted, bearing fruit--in their singing of "The Tree Song": 

"I'm becoming what the Lord of
trees has blessed me to be--
A strong young tree."
